A Flying Visit!

The infant classrooms have been working on vocabulary surrounding Airports and Holidays as part of 'Aistear' this month. They began to explore the topic by playing 'Travel Agents' and expanded the play area further to create a mini airport and (using a few chairs and a lot of imagination!) an aeroplane. We made passports and used some cool airport props like a pilots jacket, boarding passes and luggage tags (which were all kindly donated by a parent).

We invited local pilot Harry Humphreys in to speak to the children about his work. Harry is a past pupil of our school so we were delighted to have him back to visit. Harry showed us model planes and answered (many!) questions that the children had prepared for him. He then gave the children aeroplane badges and 'future pilot' stickers. Harry also arranged for his father Gerry to fly over the school and do a few stunts for a captivated audience below. It was a wonderful experience for the children, many thanks to Harry and Gerry!

And below is a short video of the 'Fly By' that Gerry did. It coincided with our 'Go Green' day for the Euro 2016 Championships hence all the green jerseys on the children.
